How to close apps on iphone

Although Apple says that an iOS user does not have to close running applications, there are some situations when closing is necessary. Below you will find a very fast way to close all applications running in the background, and thus increase the amount of free memory.

Force application to close

On the start screen of iPhone X or newer, or iPad with iOS 12 or newer or iPadOS, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and make a slight pause in the center of the screen. On iPhone 8 or earlier, double-click Home to view recently used applications.

  • Swipe right or left to find the application you want to close.
  • Swipe up on the application preview to close it.

To disable an application on iPhone 5, 5s, 6, 6S, 7, 8 and iPad devices, follow these steps:

  • During the initial screen, press the lower home button 2x quickly
  • After a while, we will see an application that is used in the background of our device
  • Swipe left or right to find the application you want to close
  • Swipe up the application to close it

The recently used applications displayed are not open, but are in standby mode to facilitate navigation and use of multiple applications at the same time.

One-click application shutdown

To do this, just hold down the “Power” button until the “Off” message appears on the screen of your device. Now all you have to do is press and hold the Home button until the main screen appears on the iPhone or iPad screen. At this point, all applications that were running in the background will be closed and the Device will definitely free memory.

What to do if the application closes unexpectedly, stops responding or cannot be opened?

You have four options to choose from:

  1. Force the application to close and then reopen it
  2. Restart the device. Then open the application and check that it works correctly.
  3. Make sure your device has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, watchOS or tvOS. Then check for application updates.
  4. Reinstall the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch application, you must open the Settings application. Tap General, then tap iPhone Disk (or iPad Disk). Tap the app, then tap. Uninstall the application. Tap this option again. Wait for the application to be uninstalled and tap Reinstall application.

Closing the application does not save battery

There is a popular belief that closing background applications can save battery even when applications are not in use.

If we want to really save energy, we should turn off Background refresh in the Settings option on iPhone or iPad. It’s definitely worth considering limiting location services. They are not needed in every application, but each user must consider it individually. We can check how much energy a given application consumes by going to Settings, then clicking Battery and choosing what we want. We will check the activity on the screen and in the background.

If you have a problem with the Apple application, you can also contact Apple Support. If this is a third-party application, contact the developer of the application.
